Our Home Defense Shooting Fundamentals (HDSF) course is designed to teach the basics of defensive shooting for those who may not have time for an all-day class or have a limited supply of ammo. Based on the methodologies and philosophies of Intuitive Defensive Shooting (IDS), the HDSF course is perfect for anyone who has purchased their first firearm and wants to learn how to shoot in a defensive context.

Students who complete this course will begin to feel both physically and mentally confident in their shooting skills as we prepare for the most probably scenarios while building a solid foundation of defensive handgun techniques, such as:

  • intuitive unsighted fire
  • intuitive sighted fire
  • using natural kinesthetic alignment
  • lateral movement
  • emergency reloads
  • Must have your own pistol and be able to legally own it
  • Must be familiar with loading and unloading your pistol
Class Logistics:
  • This course is intended for beginners; however, you must be able to legally own and transport a firearm
  • Must be comfortable loading and unloading your own firearm
  • Must provide your own firearm and ammo
Range Day Logistics:

Important: You may choose to arrive carrying your own firearm; however, there will be NO handling of firearms or ammo until instructed by your instructor.

What you need to bring:
  • Gun with holster (Ankle, harness, drop leg, pancake, urban, holsters are prohibited). We prefer OWB holsters but will allow IWB as long as you can tuck your shirt in behind it..
  • 200-250 rounds of ammo
  • Minimum of 3 magazines. If mag capacity under 10 rounds then 5 magazines
  • Mag pouch (if you use one when you carry and is not necessary)
  • Notebook and pen
  • Water or other (non-alcohol) hydration liquids
  • Lunch and snacks if needed
  • Comfortable clothes and footwear that is weather appropriate
  • Sun screen (if applicable)
  • Proper eyes and ears
