Defending yourself and those who we love in dynamic critical incidents require a set of specific skills. The USCCA Defensive Shooting Fundamentals (DSF) Program is designed to educate responsibly armed Americans on how to efficiently process and respond in high-stress incidents. This program will help students recognize learned stimuli and engage intuitive responses to better process information during crucial situations. This procedure is the key philosophy of the Counter Ambush Methodology.

Each level of the DSF Program (L1 and L2) consists a self-study E-learning module and one full day of life fire range activities with our USCCA certified firearms instructor. The DSF E-learning modules are presented by world renowned instructor and developer of the Counter Ambush Methodology, Rob Pincus. In this section, students will be introduced to new concepts, terminology, and knowledge that will prepare students to maximize their learning potential for completing the live fire portion of the course. Students enrolled in this course will also receive a copy of the USCCA Defensive Shooting Fundamentals textbook written by Rob Pincus.

Our USCCA Certified DSF Instructor will cover perceptive defensive skills that work well with how our bodies react under high-stress and dynamic critical incidents. Students will realize their own competency levels as they learn to apply skills in context during simulated live fire drill and simulations throughout this course.

The DSF L1 portion of this course will prepare students for the most probable scenarios by building a solid foundation of defensive handgun skills such as assessment, intuitive sighted fire, unsighted fire, using natural and kinesthetic alignment, lateral movements, emergency reloads, presentation from the holster, and various home defense concepts.

It is essential that gear arrangements remain the same for both training and carry. Loaner gear is available upon request.

Please note: the cost of this class is $150.00 plus a $30 ($180 total) for the USCCA E-learning materials. Students will be required to pay $30 to the USCCA upon signing up for this course.

  • Students must possess their own pistol and be able to legally carry within the state
  • Students must be comfortable with loading and unloading their own pistol

Class Logistics:

After signing up for the course, students are required to contact the USCCA and notify them that they are taking the DSF-1 course with William Dalpe. Students will also be required to pay a $30 free to access the E-learning portion of the class. Please be sure to ask them the procedure for taking the E-learning portion in case they do not tell you. This section must be completed at least ten days prior to the designated class date.

Range Logistics:

We encourage students to arrive carrying; however, there will be NO handling of firearms or ammo until instructed.

What you will bring:
  • Proper eyes and ears protection
  • Gun with holster (important note: ankle, harness, drop leg, pancake, urban, and SERPA holsters are prohibited). While we prefer OWB (Outside the Waistband) holsters, we will allow IWB (Inside the Waistband) as long as you can tuck your shirt in behind it

  • Minimum of three magazines. Please use five round magazines if mag capacity is under ten rounds
